It was a familiar yet first time visit that led to discussion on shared values and challenges of the two archipelagos. It incited the newly accredited Philippines Ambassador to Seychelles, Charlette G. Tang, to speak of her hope to increase Philippine projects in Africa.
She made her first official visit to the Minister for Transport, Antony Derjacques yesterday afternoon (14/03/2023).
After 36 years of bilateral relations not much has been done between the two countries, yet the Philippines has a small community in Seychelles and share a mutual friendship.
Ambassador Tang hopes to revive agreements postponed since 2019 and work towards increased connectivity between the Seychelles and Philippines. To date, there are no direct flights between the two island nations.
Seychelles is one of eleven other African countries under the jurisdiction of Ambassador Tang. This includes Burundi, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Comoros, Malawi, Rwanda, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
Ambassador Charlette G. Tang will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Minister for Transport has overall responsibility for the departments, as well as its arm’s length bodies (ALBs), which have established governance structures.
