SPA CEO’s Message - International Day for Women in Maritime
Today we celebrate our women once more for they are the pillar of our society. They are special for their bravery and courage to be part of a sector that has always been male dominated. Maritime is a vast sector which is becoming more versatile and attracting to women as the government has created a pathway to allow the women to follow their dreams, no matter which job they want to do.
In this fast emerging society, women should not be left behind. We are no longer living in an era where women are being suppressed for who they are and what they want to be, but rather being empowered to do better and achieve great things in life. As the men who are leading the maritime sector, we should encourage as many women to join and support them to demonstrate their full potentials. Women are said to be great problem solvers, so why can’t we have them on-board?
The maritime sector is said to be one which is very dynamic and is gradually transforming over the years. Back then the women were affiliated with office jobs such as secretaries, human resources officers, accountants etc. But today, we have them occupying key positions which are being led by men such as captains, engineers, mechanics, amongst others. They are slowly taking their place in this very important sector.
On this special day, I commend the women from our organisation and all those who are doing a great job in their positions to keep working hard so you can harvest the fruits of your sacrifices. Your courage and determination have not gone unnoticed, and you have portrayed that you are not afraid to be challenged by the difficulties you are faced with on a daily basis.
